| Resumo | A cylindrical electrostatic energy analyzer is being constructed at LAP-INPE to measure the energy spectrum of electrons from 0.1 keV to 30 keV. It was originally designed to be launched in the EQUARS scienti¯c satellite, with the mission of investigating the presence of electron beams in the equatorial ionosphere at an altitude of 750km, with special attention given to the electron precipitation in the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly. A high voltage power supply was constructed to bias the analyzer plates with sweeping voltages from 10 V to 2500V in 32 steps with sweeping times 0,8s and 3,2s (determined by telecommand). It also provides a ¯xed -2500V to bias the electron detector (the space quali¯ed channeltron Sjuts model KBL510). The prototype, engineering and space quali¯ed models will be described. An electron beam with energies up to 30 keV was constructed with a hot tungsten ¯lament source to test the analyzer mechanical prototype, channeltron, the ampli¯er- discriminator and counting circuits. The characterization of each one of these components will be described, as well as the qualitative calibration of the system. Future plans will also be presented and include the construction of a rotating analyzer support structure to measure its geometrical factor and a stable photoelectric electron source for quantitative calibration. |
